Celebrity Guests at Love, Loss in New York

One of the fabulous things about working on a hit show with an all-star rotating cast is that so many amazing people come to see the show!

Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb are amazing supporters of the theatre community! They see almost every show on Broadway. We were delighted when they came to see the first cast of Love, Loss, and What I Wore. After the show they spent a lot of time talking about their own memories, but Kathie Lee was particularly struck by Gingy describing her cleavage as "looking like a peach pit." So much so that she has used the description a few times on "The Today Show"!

Lots of other folks came out for the first cast -- to name just a few, future cast members Caroline Rhea and Rhea Perlman; Mike Nichols and ABC news anchor Diane Sawyer; even musician Rufus Wainwright who was once a roommate of Natasha Lyonne! Marion Ross ("Happy Days") was a favorite. She came on the same night as Dan Lauria ("The Wonder Years"). Rosie O'Donnell rushed into the house to say "hi" and Marion tried to introduce herself but Rosie interrupted her with, "I know who you are, we all do! You're Mrs. C." This was one of the first nights of many we came out of the theatre to find a TMZ crew waiting (a definite sign that the show was taking root in pop culture)! The fun continued with the first cast and each cast after! Tim Daly ("Private Practice") made a special trip to NYC to see his sister Tyne Daly.

Meryl Streep came to see her Julie & Julia co-star Jane Lynch! Regis and Joy Philbin came too!

Film stars Anne Hathaway, Michael Douglas, Edward Norton, Goldie Hawn, and TV stars Christine Ebersole ("Royal Pains"), Dawn Wells ("Gilligan's Island"), Stephanie Zimbalist ("Remington Steele"), Wendie Malick ("Hot in Cleveland"), Lois Smith ("True Blood"), Jane Adams ("Hung"), and James Pickens, Jr. ("Grey's Anatomy") all came out to support friends in the show. Theatre luminaries such as Jerry Zaks, Bartlett Sher, Terrence McNally and Kenny Leon also made the trip to the Westside Theatre.



Matthew Morrison and Neil Patrick Harris showed up to see their current TV co-stars Jane Lynch ("Glee") and Cobie Smulders ("How I Met Your Mother"), respectively. Matt not only posed for photos (which were hilarious) but he also did a quick interview with CNN which was at the show filming this great interview with Nora and Delia Ephron!

Daniel Davis saw the March cast and reunited with his former TV co-star Fran Drescher of "The Nanny." Speaking of "The Nanny," click here to watch a video of Fran singing the show's theme song on a recent episode of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

We were all in awe when Bruce Springsteen came to the show with his wife and daughter. He spent thirty minutes talking with the cast and crew -- including a very poetic discussion about a suede jacket he had and how our clothes really are part of how we define ourselves and reflect how we evolve throughout our lives!

Tom Hanks, Danny DeVito and Samuel L. Jackson were proud husbands -- and in Danny's case, proud father too -- who came to the show and spent time with the company! We can't even remember how many times Danny came, but it was a lot! Diana Ross of course came to support her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross. This provided one of our funniest moments -- as she exited the theatre a patron broke into a off-key rendition of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" to serenade Ms. Ross with! We've had guests from the fashion world, Stacy London, Elie Tahari, Eileen Fisher, and even Michael Kors who had to come back a second time so he could bring his mom. Several folks came multiple times Chloë Sevigny, Trudie Styler, Valerie Harper, Mike Nichols and Martin Short to name a few.

And of course, the most talked about visit was when 8 of the "Glee" actors came to the show to see Jane Lynch -- Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, Lea Michele, Jenna Ushkowitz, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, Dianna Agron, and Mark Salling. We had a great time taking photos and basically goofing around on the set. About halfway through taking photos, the Westside house manager came in to tell us that hundreds of people (and a lot of paparazzi) were waiting outside -- way more than had been in the theatre! Turns out Mark Salling had tweeted that he was "heading over to see Jane Lynch's play" and of course it had been re-tweeted quite a bit. It was quite the scene getting the eight of them into their cars! Cory and Mark got pulled into the crowd a couple of times but our staff just went in after them and got them out!
