Love, Loss, and What I Wore to Build for Habitat for Humanity - New York City

Actresses Emily Bergl and Ashley Austin Morris will lead cast and crew members from the Off Broadway show, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, as they install Sheetrock in affordable Habitat-NYC homes in Bed-Stuy.

The actresses will accessorize their construction outfits with boots, hard hats and electric drills. They will help to renovate an eight-unit building, originally built in 1931. When completed, it will become affordable condominium homes for low-income working New York City families.

The building is part of 100 Homes in Brooklyn, a new Habitat-NYC initiative to build or renovate affordable homes in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Ocean Hill-Brownsville, communities hit hard by the foreclosure crisis. The initiative is funded in part with a grant from the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2.

WHEN: Tuesday, June 28

(Between Marcus Garvey Blvd. and Lewis Ave.)

Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn

Actor Drawings

For those of you who have seen Love, Loss, and What I Wore, you know that each audience member gets a piece of paper that says “Draw A Picture of Yourself” with space to draw and describe your favorite or most memorable item of clothing.

During the show, Gingy teaches the audience to draw. She gives certain instructions such as draw an egg for a head, draw an ‘m’ for a mouth, and if you can’t draw eyes just close them. Then we ask the audience to hand in their pictures and we display them in our lobby at the Westside Theatre.

What you may not know is that we ask the actors to do the same! We give each of them the same piece of paper and have them reflect on an important piece of clothing. The result is a collection of memories that the ladies all share with each other in The Pink Book.
